Pupillage / Fresh Graduates
At WongPartnership LLP, pupils are treated as future lawyers who are in this relationship for the long haul. It is our belief that the single most important thing in WongPartnership LLP is its people, without whom, WongPartnership LLP would be just another law firm. Therefore we are dedicated to committing time and resources to train and prepare our pupils and young lawyers for the rigours of legal practice. In addition to nurturing fresh talents in-house, the Firm sends lawyers on attachments to foreign law firms and organisations to gain exposure and experience.
So what should you, as a pupil of the firm, expect from us? You will be challenged, pushed and supported to achieve your very best. You will also be exposed to a wide range of work, involved in work cases from start to finish and assimilated into the firm's ethos and culture. Hard work aside, you will find that the working environment is warm (although the office air-conditioning is far from that) and friendly, with partners, associates and staff on a first name basis.
We see the pupillage programme as a platform for our lawyers to acquire a broad range of skills that are applicable to any area of practice and which will aid them as they progress with the firm. Therefore, while we assign our pupils to practice areas during their pupillage, we provide our corporate pupils a chance to rotate to other practice areas of their choice after pupillage. This ensures that our lawyers get the opportunity to practise in an area of their interest.
The Firm's pupillage programme is designed to expose our pupils to many different aspects of legal practice to ensure well-rounded development. The key objectives of this programme are:
- Broad exposure to a wide range of work;
- In-depth involvement in work cases, with the opportunity to follow the case from start to finish; and
- Integration into the ethos of the Firm.
Remuneration and Benefits
The current package for our pupils includes:
- Pupil's Allowance - $2,000 per month (excluding
PLC period);
- Honorarium of $500 per month during PLC;
- Full subsidy of PLC, EFS, dining and other
compulsory filing fees, provided pupillage is completed with us;
- Payment of all fees for Call documents to
be admitted to the Singapore Bar;
- Medical coverage by the Firm's panel of
doctors on the same basis as lawyers; and
- Recruitment with a view to retention.
The gross monthly salary for our Year 2008-qualified lawyers is $4800.
