Shirley TAN, Partner

Shirley TAN is a Partner in the Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions Practice.

Her main practice areas are mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, corporate restructurings and general corporate law.

Transactions of significance which Shirley has been involved in include acting for interTouch Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT DoCoMo, Inc. which is one of the world's leading mobile communications company, on its full acquisition of MagiNet for a consideration of US$150 million; Raffles Education Corporation Limited ("Raffles Education") in the RMB2 billion acquisition of Oriental University City Development Co., Ltd in Langfang City which will result in Raffles Education becoming the largest foreign provider of education in the PRC; ABN AMRO Bank N.V., Singapore Branch, as adviser to VST Holdings Limited relating to the conditional sale and purchase of approximately 52.5 per cent of shares in ECS Holdings Limited and the possible unconditional mandatory general cash offer for ECS Holdings Limited in Singapore for S$247 million; Ascendas in relation to its joint venture with Hangzhou Economic Development Area General North Co, a Chinese government-linked company, to develop a S$700 million information technology park, which is the group's first development project in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province in China; Standard Chartered Private Equity Limited, in the acquisition of a 19.9 per cent stake in Scomi Oilfield Limited, a subsidiary of Scomi Group Bhd for US$99.5 million; Aabar Petroleum Investments Company PJSC, a company listed on the Abu Dhabi Securities Market, in its acquisition of Pearl Energy Limited, an Exploration & Production Company listed on the Singapore Exchange, for a consideration of approximately US$547.02 million; and Accord Express Holdings Pte Ltd in the sale of its logistics business involving operations in 10 jurisdictions to CJ GLS Corporation for an aggregate consideration of approximately S$96 million.

Shirley has also acted for the Pontiac Land Group in its joint venture with West Paces Hotel Group LLC to form West Paces Hotel Group Asia, which will operate an ultra-luxury hotel in Sentosa under the "Capella" brand, the first of its kind in Asia, as well as for the Ascott Group in its agreement with Addax Investment Bank, pursuant to which the parties agreed to launch at least 15 serviced residences under the Ascott brand names across the Middle East and North Africa by 2010.

Shirley graduated from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and attended University of London where she obtained a LL.M. She was admitted to the Singapore Bar and as Barrister-at-Law (Middle Temple).
