Karen WEE is a Partner in the Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions Practice.
Her main practice areas are corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital, general corporate/commercial work and securitisations.
Transactions of significance which Karen has been involved in include acting for Arrow Electronics, Inc. in a conditional sale and purchase agreement with Achieva Limited in the sale of the entire issued share capital of its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Achieva Components Pte Ltd and Achieva Electronics Pte Ltd; and Alcoa Inc. as Singapore counsel in its joint venture arrangements between Alcoa and Aluminium Corporation of China to invest, via a Singapore special purpose vehicle in London-listed Rio Tinto plc. She also acted for clients such as CapitaLand, Wachovia Development Corporation, JP Morgan and CLSA in their joint ventures in connection with the collective sales of properties at Gillman Heights, Farrer Court, Char Yong Gardens, Grange Court and Aura Park.
Karen's experience also involves acting for a group of international investors in their investment in property projects in Shanghai by way of subscription for preference shares in a deal worth US$831 million as well as managers, underwriters and originators in a majority of the rated securitisation of residential receivables in Singapore, including the first rated issue (Peridot - 'Best Securitisation Issue', 2002 Asset Asian Award) for the CapitaLand Group and the first rated cross-border ABS from Singapore for Keppel Land (Jasmine - 'Securitisation Deal of the Year 2002 - IFR Asia Award') as well as a majority of the commercial mortgage backed securitisations in Singapore, including those for CapitaMall Trust, CapitaCommercial Trust, MMP REIT and Ascendas REIT.
Karen graduated from the National University of Singapore and was admitted to the Singapore Bar.
