CHAN Hock Keng, Partner

CHAN Hock Keng heads the Commercial & Corporate Litigation Practice and is a Partner in the China Practice.

His main practice areas are arbitration, construction, insurance, civil and commercial disputes, securities disputes and insolvency.

Hock Keng is active both in the Singapore courts and in arbitrations. He has appeared against Senior Counsel at trials and appellate hearings and has also fought cases against Queen's Counsel and international law firms in both domestic and international arbitrations. He has also acted as an expert on Singapore law in a CIETAC arbitration in Beijing.

Hock Keng graduated top of his class from the University of Bristol with First Class Honours and was awarded the Sweet & Maxwell Law Prize. He was placed fifth in the UK Bar Exams the following year and was called to the Singapore Bar. He clerked for the Chief Justice for a year before entering private practice in 1995. Hock Keng was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales.

Hock Keng is a Honorary Legal Adviser to the Singapore Medical Association, the national medical organisation representing medical practitioners in Singapore.

Hock Keng is a member of the Publications Committee of the Singapore Academy of Law and a panel member of the Disciplinary Committee appointed by the Chief Justice to hear complaints against lawyers. He is also a member of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre's Panel of Arbitrators and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Hock Keng is a member of the 54th Council of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry ("SCCCI") and sits on the boards of two private development companies, an Institution of Public Character and EDC@SCCCI Pte Ltd, a centre spearheaded by SCCCI in partnership with SPRING Singapore with an aim to provide value-added services to local enterprises in all aspects of doing business in Singapore and beyond.

Hock Keng has contributed to the Singapore Civil Procedure 2007 as well as the Annotated Guide to the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act 2004 published by Sweet Maxwell.

Hock Keng was noted by The Asia Pacific Legal 500, 2005/2006 for providing "useful insights" in debt restructuring matters.
