Ameera ASHRAF, Partner

Ameera ASHRAF is a Partner in both the Competition Practice and the Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions Practice.  

Since the implementation of the Competition Act 2004, Ameera has been advising clients from different industries on compliance with the Competition Act. Ameera advises on a full range of competition issues, including merger control, restrictive practices, abuse of dominance and compliance programmes. She has advised a regulator in the drafting of its competition framework, and regularly gives seminars on Competition law. Ameera also has experience in UK and EC competition law through a secondment with the Antitrust Group of Clifford Chance LLP in London.

Ameera has been actively advising on the merger control provisions of the Competition Act, which were introduced in July 2007, and was most recently involved in obtaining merger control clearance from the Competition Commission of Singapore for a US$7 billion acquisition. She also advises on sectoral competition laws. She has advised various MNCs in relation to possible complaints of breach under section 34 of the Competition Act prohibiting anti-competitive agreements as well as on possible breaches under section 47 of the Competition Act prohibiting abuse of dominance. Ameera has acted for various industry bodies in the application of the Competition Act to their recommended guidelines. She was featured in Who's Who Legal: Singapore 2008 as one of the leading Competition lawyers in Singapore.

Ameera also has significant experience in civil litigation, having dealt with a breadth of corporate and commercial disputes. Ameera teaches Trial Advocacy at the Postgraduate Practice Law Course in Singapore and serves as Adjunct Tutor of the Faculty of Law at the National University of Singapore where she also tutors in Trial Advocacy. Her experience includes a two-year stint as Legal Counsel in a US conglomerate. She graduated from the National University of Singapore and was admitted to the Singapore Bar. She also has a Postgraduate Diploma in EC Competition Law from King's College, University of London.
